BBQ: Loving is hard work

BBQ 25.01.14

I had an hour-long conversation on Thursday with one of my cousins in the US just catching up on our lives and other family issues. As we discussed an ongoing issue she reminded me that people will hurt you but who are you willing to suffer for?

Yes I know we all have issues with our families: The ones we are born into and the ones we choose. But the fact that we call them family means that they are the ones we decide are worth suffering for. It’s a lesson I learned from my mother as well. She had 10 siblings and she was in the middle. So of course there would be disagreements and hurts and slights real or imagined. However, it didn’t matter what happened between them, my mother always said, “that’s ok, that’s my blood.”

Today’s Beautiful Blog Quote comes from a comment on this post. Vikera was sharing her own six-word story but it resonated with me because it was what I was feeling at the time about my family.

It is hard work loving this family I was born into..especially since we are a stone-cold pack of weirdos. But they are the ones I will suffer for any day.

Vikera just started her blog and already she has been featured on BlogHer. She is fast becoming one of my favourite bloggers and you can enter her Mind Maze here. Good stuff I tell you.

BBQ: Flaws and All

Flaws

When Leah posted this on Monday, therein was the one line I needed to read that day and it stayed with me for the rest of the week.

I know that I have many..many flaws. There are those I freely admit to – my temper, I cannot stand people sometimes, I cuss…a lot. And there are those I keep hidden from you. Those closest to me…know the ones I’m talking about.

Leah’s words resonated so much with me, that they inspired this post. When you’re hurting or doubting yourself…or just in a eff-this-ish kinda place, you need some simple truth.

You are enough. Flaws and all.

Don’t be afraid to show the world exactly who you are.

Leah is another one of my favourite bloggers and she is also the author of Red Circle Days. You can read my review of this little gem here. She’s fond of words – a lady after my own heart and you can read more about her on her blog Little Miss Wordy.

BBQ: Begin

BBQ - 11.01.14

You’ve set your intentions, chosen your One Word, or made your resolutions. Then it’s 11 days into 2014 and those intentions are kaput…or you may have already ditched your resolutions or started to feel a little down because you didn’t go to the gym every.single.day at least 3 days a week, like you promised yourself you would for 2014.

Maybe you bit off more than you can chew, maybe you’re just lazy? Some of us are waiting on Monday to start, because you cannot start a gym program on a Saturday obviously. Or maybe you’re waiting for the beginning of February, because who can start that project on the 11th of the month right? Might as well enjoy the old habits for a little while longer.

Like Rara said here, “Everyone wants to start with a bang! They want to see results in moments, or they wait to start until they’re at the starting place.”

Guess what…the starting place is right now. You can begin today, right now, right where you are, just as you are.

So my lovelies, will you start again? Or for the first time?

Right where you are today?

No fireworks…bangs, crackles or pops?

BBQ: Make Mistakes

This is my first BBQ for 2014 and I’m serving up the goodness a bit differently. My quote today didn’t come from just one blog…for the last couple days, some of my favourite bloggers have quoted one of my absolute favourite writers. And I thought to myself that this is the best goshdarn? BBQ to start 2014.

Make Mistakes

If you’re in the mood for seconds, you can watch Neil’s address to the University of the Arts (Phl) Class of 2012 here.

So my lovelies, what are you creating? 4 days into 2014, have you considered what you want for yourself…for your blog in the year ahead?

If you’re in the business of creating art in whatever glorious form it takes…then this BBQ is from my heart to yours!

Write Epic Shit

EPIC 2014

Here’s to an EPIC 2014.

In keeping with my Saturday BBQ, I thought that this quote from Sparkline is the best way to end 2013 and usher in 2014!

Write things that make people think. Inspire people. Change lives. Create value. Blow people away with your usefulness. – Corbett Barr

I recently started following Corbett Barr’s blog Sparkline and it has become a go-to resource for blog-building, writing and entrepreneurial tips.

You can read more about Corbett and his team here .

What will you create in 2014?

Please feel free to share below!
