Five Minute Friday: Grateful

“We write because we love words and the relief it is to just write them without worrying if they’re just right or not. – Lisa-Jo Baker

I’m linking up again this week with Lisa-Jo and the other lovely writers of Five Minute Friday.

GO

I started a gratitude practice on Mondays where I share 7 positives/things I am grateful or thankful for and this practice has really changed the way I approach my week.

However, this week in particular has been especially hard. It seems everybody and their sister is writing a Mother’s day post and I am dreading reading your blogs this weekend which is crazy because some of my favourite blogs are “mommy-blogs”. In fact I am considering a social media blackout until Monday. Is that normal…that four years later I still cannot share in the happiness of others…even my own family on Mother’s Day?

I am reminded even more so around this time of year that it was the last truly happy times we shared with mummy. And the further away from Mother’s Day Weekend 2010 I get is the more I fear the memories of that weekend will fade. It feels like a triple whammy with her Birthday, Ovarian Cancer Day and Mother’s Day all occurring in the same week.

STOP

I ran out of time and it’s a good thing too because the tears have started and I cannot see through them to type anymore.

Hi Vernette, thanks for your honest and heartfelt post. I pray you will know God’s special comfort and peace this weekend, and that you will be able to enjoy remembering all the happy times with your mum without feeling overwhelmed. Love and blessings from Mandy (FMF) x

Oh, such bravery in sharing such pain. Praying that as the tears flow, you know the presence and comfort of the Holy One. Sammy (FMF)

Hi Vernette, I had to come over to your blog after seeing the comment you left on my blog. Wow, your post is so touching, I could almost feel the tears as if you were telling it in front of me. Thank You Sis for being honest. I think we have one thing in common: most of my subscribers and the people I’m following are mothers. At first I felt a little out of place, but I just had to write.
I pray that you will find encouragement in God’s word, find comfort in those sweet moments you spent with your mom and that you will find reasons to be grateful this weekend. God bless you Sister.
    Sending you my Love.

Dear Vernette, what a wonderful idea to start your weeks with thanksgiving.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts. It’s so hard to be grateful when the whole world is focusing on the one thing that casues the most pain and sorrow for you. We can’t always be grateful *for* everything, but we can be thankful *through* everything.
God bless, and thank you for the comment on my blog.
    Esther
