Before the first rays of sunlight creep across the sky…my alarm goes off. Lately I have been getting up before the alarm so that I have a “extra” few minutes to stretch before I get out of bed.

Sometimes, I just want to stay a while, lie still and thank the Lord for another day. Most times after about 5 minutes of snuggling deeper into the lingering warmth and coziness of my sheets, I get off my bed and start my Keurig for the first cup of the morning. My warm lemon water first thing.

It does not take more than two minutes and then I am back in my bed sipping my lemon water…usually getting my mind ready for the day ahead. I take this time pray and then read a chapter or two from my current light read. This week it’s Dying To Be Me by Anita Moorjani.

Half hour creeps by. The rest of the world is waking up now. I can hear the traffic growing. I hear the engines and the horns but I have already centered my being so that the harsh realities of the new day seem bearable.

It’s time for my first cup of coffee. Back to my Keurig. I choose my “mug of the day” and then carefully make my coffee.

Stop. Sip. Savor. Repeat.

This time out of time before the world wakes up…is the favourite part of my day.

The mornings when I oversleep for whatever reason and miss this ritual…my whole day seems off. Because it is never just another day.

Today is an opportunity to start again.

You never know if this is going to be your last today…so you make each one count.

STOP

Hi from your linkup neighbour at FMF!

For me it is now a bit different – the room in which I sleep is also home to fourteen dogs, and about an hour and a half before the sun comes up they wake up…

    “Uh…Dad? Now? PLEASE!”

So in the gloaming, I am walking them. Then they go back to sleep, and I have the opportunity read and reflect.

Then the eight dogs in the other part of the house wake up, just after the sun’s risen. (We’re up to 22,in case you were wondering…but there are four more living outside.)

It’s not a bad way to wake up. For them, and for me, love is truly the only currency. They came from places in which love seemed far away, and I think perhaps they appreciate being here, and being loved.

Yeah. Good way to start the day.

I cannot imagine what your house must be like with all that energy but I love what you said about them being loved. 26 dogs is a commitment to love and loving on a whole other level. Thank you for stopping by, you just made my day friend. 🙂

        Thank you!

There is a lot of energy, but there can be stillness, too. When they are all asleep, the silence is more profound than any I have ever heard, because it is the silence born of security after the storm, for them.

They have given me far more than they could ever take.

    Hi Vernette,

Your morning routine sounds so peaceful. There is something serene about those early moments before anything else starts stirring.

PS: (My mom is from T&T. Great to meet a Trini blogger in the FMF linkup)

I often wake up before my alarm goes off as well and find the quiet, the stillness of the house so beautiful. Sometimes I lie in bed and pray into the dark. Other times I slowly move out of bed not to wake my husband, and sit on the couch to just be. Even though I love staying up late, my favorite time of day is the early morning hours when it seems I’m the only one awake.

I love early mornings. Your morning routine sounds lovely. Mine is similar. I appreciate those times of just being still when it’s still quiet. Such a peaceful place you have here. Blessings!
