Love Note: The Canvas

After reading this post from TriniChow, I decided to treat myself to a breakfast at The Canvas. Because it’s nice to stop and smell the coffee ever so often.

There is just something oh so sumptuous about dining out for the first meal of the day. To me it feels like I’m on vacation…better yet if I do it mid-week. Man oh man it feels so damn decadent.

This is exactly what I did, on a random Wednesday morning. And because when it’s nice you do it twice…again on a Sunday morning after Mass.

The Canvas definitely raises the breakfast bar. It’s located on Long Circular Rd, just after Courts, and from the moment you enter, you wonder to yourself: What a little gem of spot this is…and so out-of-place in this area. But oh so welcomed.

My server Eugenia was friendly and attentive both times I visited. And quite by accident, I had the absolute fortune to meet the owner on my first visit. We got to chatting and I love her vision for the restaurant and that she attempts to give her customers the very best she has to offer.

The breakfast menu offers local fare as well as pancakes and French toast, along with omelets and other egg dishes. They even serve oatmeal! It is interesting to note that you can request your selected dish made anyway you like, adding or subtracting items to your heart’s desire. So you like your burger served with a poached egg on top? Request it and it’s created for you. Your meal is your canvas and you can create whatever makes your tummy happy!

I haven’t had lunch there yet but the menu is a good one too.

The Canvas: 223-7251, #3 Long Circular Rd, St. James

Breakfast #1: The French Toast which was unlike any I’ve had elsewhere. It was made with homemade whole wheat bread and it wasn’t heavy or oily or sugary. It was just right and topped with fresh fruit.

Breakfast #2: The Strawberry Banana Crepe. Now this was simply delicious. Light, with the right amount of yummy! Yes I know this is technically dessert, but I had this on a Sunday…and why not? It’s nice to start the day…the week with dessert for breakfast!

Stand outs: The Mochaccino. This was a decadent, whipped cream, chocolate syrup covered bit of heaven.

Things to note: WiFi is free, all you have to do is ask the staff for the password. There is a crowd on the weekend, especially during that “after Church” time on a Sunday, so it is best to make a reservation. Mid-week was less crowded.

Quote of the Day

if

Read, enjoy, share.

Anytime, anywhere.

{Linking back to http://VernetteOutLoud.wordpress.com is appreciated.}

This poem resonates with me on so many levels. Though written for his son, Kipling’s words speak to me, especially the excerpt above. It says to me that the true measure of a woman is her courage and humility. You can risk everything you have and lose and it takes great courage and even greater humility to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again. And not focus on/speak about the loss. Hits me for all kinds of sixes.

7 For Seven

Hello again loves! It’s a little late in the day I know…but it’s never too late for a gratitude list. Right?

…every Monday, we post seven positives from the previous seven days of the week as a reminder of what we have so that the week starts out on an upswing. There is much truth in the belief that happy people attract good things, so it is important to start the week out right. Sometimes it’s the more grand, but other times, it’s the simple things.~ Key + Arrow

7 for Seven originated at Key + Arrow and here are my short and sweet 7 positives for this week:

Pink toenails. I have the absolute best friends. This weekend I was able to get a mani/pedi at a Spa I have been dying to visit, courtesy on of my friends. In her words, “You’re my girl, you deserve this.” So grateful.

Letting go. I was stressing over all the commitments that cropped up demanding to be satisfied this month and wondering how I will get it all done. It was overwhelming. I prayed about it, asking for a light to be shone on the answer and just like that, while I was doing something quite mundane the answer came to me. And the relief was so sweet. The minute I let it all go, and stopped worrying the answer became clear.

Scented candles. There is just something about a lit scented candle that adds luxuriousness to any room. They certainly lift my moods.

Happy Hour. It’s not what you think. Happy Hour is that hour I get all to myself before the “demands of the day” intrudes. I pray, stretch, drink my lemon water. It’s my time. And on the mornings I have to rush through it or can’t do it for whatever reason, I feel like my whole day is off. Cheers to happy hour!

A good cup of coffee! A good cup of coffee just makes it all better. Doesn’t it?

My Netflix Subscription. My cable provider blocks all the good tv shows now. Thankfully, Netflix takes up the slack. I fear, I just might be in a serious relationship with Netflix.

A hearty breakfast. I am grateful that I was able to fix a nutritious breakfast for myself all week. No cheating with donuts or pastries.

My hope is that by turning my focus to all that I have to be grateful for at the start of my work week, by sowing my own seeds of faith and gratitude, I can carry with me and reap the rewards of “positivity + balance + bliss” throughout the days ahead.

If you’re reading this, this is me blowing some glitter and confetti on you because you’re super blessed to have received the gift of another 86,400 seconds today, to spend any way you desire. What made you happy today? What are you grateful for? I would love to hear from you.

Virtual Blog Tour Revisited

Hey loves!

A few weeks ago, I posted my response to being nominated for A Virtual Blog Tour about my creative process. Part of the tour involves passing the ‘baton’ and I nominated three other bloggers to do the same and post their responses today. I’m super excited that Vikera, from Vikera’s Mind Maze, was able to accept the nomination.

In her response, Vikera takes us on a little trip into the Mind Maze. Fairly new to the blogging world, Vikera shares with us why she blogs and what spurs her to continue.

A very talented writer, Vikera, blogs about her perspective on life with such authenticity and humor it’s hard not to like her little patch of the internet. She also shares great advice and tips on “how to get out of debt’.

So if you have some time today and would like to explore the Mind Maze for a bit, why not check out her blog and see for yourself? Trust me you won’t be disappointed!
