Farewell 2015

I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR TODAY.

This the last day in 2015. I got to feel the sun on my skin. I made peace with the past. I cried. I lit a candle for all that was and for all that is yet to come.

I lived to see today. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring and in this moment I am whole and happy.

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. – Jim Rohn

As I sit here toasting all that went down in 2016, I keep asking myself…if the life I’m creating by the choices I’m making is propelling me towards my best self?

I walked in truth and now my heart is bigger, busted wide open and ready even more Love. I moved towards a better version of me and I truly love the woman I am growing into. As I think about those choices that led me to this moment and with a full heart, I set my intention for MORE in 2016. I want:

More of what counts.

More of what is important to me. The people I love. I plan to tell them every chance I get. Starting with the family lime we usually have on New Year’s Day. I am so lucky to still have the chance to tell them.

More Writing.

After not publishing anything in this space for 120 days because I’m lazy for all kinds of reasons, I finally turned things around this week. *throws confetti* Thank you for reading!

More Travel.

This was a great year for travel. I made it to London! I’ve been bitten by the travel bug hard. I am craving new experiences. I want more travel.

More time with my Cohort of Awesome.

I haven’t been very good at keep in touch with my family and friends who live afar…this is anybody who does not live in my neighbourhood. I know, I know! Thankfully my sister and brother live within a few blocks of me. My sister is the family whisperer though. She knows everything that’s happening with everybody. While I don’t think I can get to her level of social prowess, in 2016 I plan to do better than I’ve done this year. These are the people who make this journey of mine worthwhile. I need to make sure they know I appreciate them.

More self-care.

You know when you fly on an airplane, the flight attendant instructs you to put your oxygen mask on first, before helping others? Do you know why this is an important rule for ensuring survival? You put on your oxygen mask first, because if you run out of oxygen, you can’t help anyone else with their mask. I had a massage last week and when the masseuse got to my shoulders and neck we both could feel the knots. It was p a i n f u l. She immediately said to me that this is my health I’m playing with. Why was I carrying so much stress? If something happens to me…because I allowed stress to make me sick, guess what…I can’t help anybody and life will go on without me. I CHOOSE to be here to celebrate life in 2016. Bring on those massages!

The biggest lesson I’ve learned this year is that Obstacles Are Good. And I am grateful for every last one of them. I’m a better, stronger, more beautiful me because of them.

As I enter 2016, I’m reminded that happiness is not a destination, it’s a journey and it’s one that you begin from within. It is simply doing the things every single day that move you closer to your best possible self.

Happy New Year to all of you. I wish you only the best. Here’s to Abundance, Adventure and Infinite Possibilities.

Light & Love.

7-for-1

I hope you are having the most fantastic December of your life! But if you aren’t and it’s just a regular December…that’s cool too. You may have noticed that things have been extremely quiet on the blog for a while…124 days of quiet to be exact. What was supposed to be a short break to revamp the look of the blog and work on better content for you ended up being a four-month long hiatus. Because…Life Happens.

I love my blog. I love writing and I have missed this space and my blogging community. A lot! I appreciate you for still reading and still supporting my little patch of internet. That said, I am super-SUPER-excited to share with you all the brand new content (articles, tips, rituals and all the good stuff in the Inspiration Library) I’ve been working on all this time to help make 2016 the best year of our lives.

Things will kick-off on January 01st, with my One Word reveal for 2016, the new direction of the blog and a giveaway. Be sure to subscribe, so that you NEVER MISS A POST!

I know it’s been a while but in this space on this day of the week…

2015 has been an amazing year full of challenges, successes, plenty change and mad personal growth. I am grateful for all the love (in all the forms it took) in my life, the new places I’ve been to, the great food I’ve tried and all the good coffee I’ve had.

My biggest lesson this year has been: Obstacles Are Good. And I am grateful for every last one of them. I’m a better, stronger, more beautiful me because of them.

Today I choose

There are some days I look at my life and I am content. It’s not perfect, I’m not perfect — far from it. And you know what…I’m cool with that. Life is good. I have love. I’m working hard towards my goals.

I wake up grateful to be in the land of the living and happy for another opportunity to try. And while this does not happen every.single.day. When it does…there is no other feeling quite like it. Contentment is enoughness on 100! I am enough.

I’m grateful for the two grandmothers I had to the opportunity to interact with over the weekend. They were both happy to share stories of their grand-babies who really lit up their world. I was thoroughly entertained as they shared the antics of their legacies.

I’m grateful for the little Light that is glowing in my own family. So much love abounds through and for that Light.

I’m grateful for my uncle. He has shown us all how to truly live at 74 years young. I tell him every opportunity I get just how much I appreciate him and his impact on my life. At 74, he is showing men more than half his age how to truly live in and enjoy each moment.

I’m grateful for my family – this stone cold pack of weirdos who taught me how to belly laugh…especially at myself. If you haven’t acquired this skill you will not survive with us or the wider world. Learn to laugh. Hard. Loud. From ya belly! And learn to laugh at yourself.

I am grateful that I have learned how prioritize my self-care. It is okay to say no sometimes. It’s okay to not have every minute of the day filled with something to do. Learning how and when to say NO has dramatically changed how I treat myself and how I spend my time. I don’t attach so much significance to “busyness” anymore.

I am so happy today, as I reflect on the people who share this journey with me. And I am especially grateful for you…because you choose to share my world and that is something I hope to never take for granted. You are one of the universe’s special gifts to me and I am grateful.

Hello Loves! It’s been hot and hectic for the last few days. But here in the this space on a Monday…the show must go on.

…every Monday, we post seven positives from the previous seven days of the week as a reminder of what we have so that the week starts out on an upswing. 7 for Seven originated at Key + Arrow and I have adopted the practice and it has really changed my life in positive ways. My 7 this week is all about the little things, I sometimes take for granted and one HUGE thing I am super grateful for:

Kindness from a stranger. A HUGE thank you to the very kind cashier at the grocery this weekend, who saved me from a really embarrassing situation involving $5.00 Saying I was grateful is putting it mildly. Note to self: Must pay it forward.

Air-conditioning. Because I live on an island in the blazing hot sun.

Waking up before my alarm. Somehow, it feels like I have a few extra minutes of snuggling deeper under the covers.

Good coffee. There is no simpler pleasure.

Your Order Has Been Shipped. Best. Email. Ever.

My brother and sister. So much is happening right now is our lives but the love and support never wavers. I am blessed to have these two people in my life.

Love. Whenever, I start to feel like there is a lack…I am reminded of just how blessed I truly am.

3.5 pull-ups. Soooo when I started my new training program at the gym, I could only do 2 pull-ups unassisted. After 6 weeks of training my arms which sometimes feel like they have all the strength of TRex arms…I am up to 3.5 pull-ups. Now I wanted to round this up to 4 eh…but that would be cheating and I worked damn hard for that 1.5. My goal is to do 5 unassisted. So baby steps.

Coming home to a made bed. This little habit has improved my life so much. Sometimes it really is the little things that make you happy.

I hope that by continuing to pay attention to these little things, the mundane details that make up all the blessings in my life and by sowing the seeds of faith and gratitude, I can truly carry with me and reap the rewards of “positivity + balance + bliss” throughout the day and well into the week ahead.

Five years ago today…I was preparing to say my final goodbye to my mother. It was a day quite like this one – sunny, blue skies – except there was a slow motion quality to everything.

Five years later…it is still surreal. I heard her name being called at Mass this weekend and for a second I was like…”hey that’s mummy’s name.”

Grief does not get easier. All them books on it…they lie. Who feels it, knows it. And I’m learning to live with it. I’m learning how to be happy in a world that is forever changed. I’m learning to live all the lessons she taught me.

I would not be the woman I am today without them. And as painful as it might be to admit this, I would not be who I am today, if she were still here.

There is much truth in the belief that happy people attract good things, so it is important to start the week out right. 7 for Seven originated at Key + Arrow and I have adopted the practice and it has really changed my life in positive ways. My 7 this week is all about the woman who God chose to create me. I love her. I miss her every. single. day.

Thank you for giving me life. Thank you for being my first love. Thank you for teaching me how to let go of someone I love. Letting you go was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

Dear Mummy, thank you for introducing me to God. It is this faith that gives me the strength to move forward in joyful hope.

Thank you for showing me how to be strong. Around the time we decided as a family that mummy was not going to do any more chemo treatments, I asked her what was the one lesson she learned from her whole journey with Ovarian Cancer. She said to me that having cancer, taught her how to be strong. This from the woman who raised three children on her own, during a recession, cleaning people’s houses to make ends meet. I have so much respect for what she calls “strength”.

Thank you for my sister and brother. This journey would have been super boring without having them to blame things on. Thank you drumming it into our heads teaching us what is really important. Thank you for a childhood that may have lacked “wants” but was full of the things that really mattered – Love, plenty laughter and a mother who cheated to win against her own kids at board games. Yes folks my mother hated losing…to her children.

Thank you for allowing me to bathe in the rain! I’m a hardcore pluviophile and proud!

Thank you for all the support and encouragement.

I want to make you so proud. I want when people meet me that they see a bit of you too. I want them to know that the woman I am today was because you worked hard, you sacrificed so that I could get here. I am so grateful for the time I had with you and I hope to live a life where time with the people I love is always my number one priority!

I will pay attention to the little things today. Those little things, the mundane details that make up all the blessings in my life as I move through this day still so full of promise. By sowing these seeds of faith and gratitude, I can truly carry with me and reap the rewards of “positivity + balance + bliss” throughout the days ahead and well into the week ahead.
